Biography
Mike Freda graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven and then attended Southern Connecticut State University, where he majored in Sociology with a course concentration in public speaking.
Prior to being elected First Selectman of the Town of North Haven in November of 2009, Mike served as President / CEO of ESM / BTM in New England (a company with $1 billion in annual volumes) and President / CEO of CBS Marketing (a company with $100 million in annual volume) with offices in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Mike is also the Past Regional President for Advantage Sales and Marketing, a substantial player in the sales and marketing agency industry ($ 1 billion in annual revenues).
Other business positions held by Mike have included seats on numerous advisory boards, including Dow Brands, a division of Dow Chemical, and the Dow Brands' advisory boards for Lipton/Unilever, Rich Products and Chef America, a division of Nestle and also a member of the Board of Directors for one of Lee Iacocca's companies.
In 1996, Mr. Freda was names to the "International Who's Who of Professionals," which signified the top executives as selected by that particular organization. He was also Chairmen of two leadership committees of the NFBA and GMR, which are two leading food industry councils. During this time, Mike was also a panel discussion moderator and featured speaker for Lipton and the New England Wholesale Distributors.
Mike and his wife Shirley have three children and have lived in North Haven for 30 years. Mike is a past member of the North Haven Board of Finance and served as Third Selectman for two years prior to being elected First Selectman. He also author's "Freda's Focus" a column on topics of local interest published in local weekly newspapers and also does a local North Haven TV show entitled North Haven Journal.
